The tool was launched March 12 at the Positive Impact event.

The Digital Product Passport will become mandatory for more and more product groups under the European Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) in the coming years. The passport must make transparent how products are designed, produced, used and recycled. Think material information, origin of raw materials, reparability and end-of-life options.

For many companies, this means a concrete challenge: technical product information that is often already available must be re-structured and supplemented. This takes time and capacity, while the exact requirements for each product group are still being worked out.

What does the tool do?

The DPP tool analyzes existing technical product data and translates it into a structured DPP format. At the same time, it automatically produces a GAP analysis: an overview of what information is already present and what data is still missing to meet future requirements.

Instead of a lengthy manual process, this gives companies instant insight into their current level of data and allows them to focus on completing missing sustainability information.

Why free?

At Empact, we believe that the heart of the sustainability transition is not in administering sustainability, but in actually improving it. Collecting information for a DPP is necessary, but should not take up most of organizations’ time and resources.

Automating the process of DPP construction creates space for what ultimately matters: improving products, chains and performance in terms of sustainability. The insight provided by the tool forms the basis for targeted improvements, for example in the areas of material use, circularity or CO₂ reduction.

From compliance to impact

With regulations such as the ESPR, transparency about products is becoming increasingly important. AI can help organize that transparency efficiently, but the goal is bigger. Empact supports organizations in the next step: translating insight into concrete improvements in products and value chains. The DPP tool is the starting point in this. More AI tools will follow.

The tool is freely available at the link below:

Go to DPP tool.

Empact is introducing a free AI tool that allows companies to generate an initial Digital Product Passport (DPP) based on their own product information.
