Delta Electronics publishes first CSRD report

Delta Electronics, a world leader in energy and thermal management with annual sales of 11 billion euros and more than 80,000 employees, has published its first CSRD report. We guided Delta Electronics EMEA for two years in the preparation of this report.

From materiality to data management

We conducted the dual materiality analysis, systematically identifying impacts, risks and opportunities (IROs). Using intensive stakeholder engagement with employees, customers, suppliers and local communities, we then identified five material themes with Delta: climate change, circular economy, own employees, employees in the value chain and business ethics.

For Delta’s 109 different entities, we built an ESG data management platform that collects and structures real-time data according to CSRD requirements. “We are extremely pleased that our ESG data platform was developed in-house at Empact,” said Cindy Benschop, ESG Manager Delta Electronics EMEA, in an interview. “They know both Delta and CSRD, which saves us a lot of time and communication problems.”

For the writing, we collaborated with Narrative Labs, experts in corporate reporting who also provide reports for ASML and Philips. DartDesign provided the design.

Internal carbon pricing

A special element in the Delta report is the internal carbon pricing mechanism. Any site that purchases fossil energy pays an internal “penalty” that goes into a sustainability fund. Those who choose renewable energy are exempt from this. In 2024, this generated $21 million, invested directly in energy-saving technologies. With an internal carbon price of $300 per ton, sustainability becomes an integral part of every investment decision.

Results and follow-up

The report shows concrete results that Delta can be proud of. The company now uses 84% renewable electricity. And Scope 1 and 2 emissions have dropped 53.6% since 2021. Employee engagement is at 90%, which is very high for this sector.

“We view this document as laying the foundation for more rigorous action,” states Bruce Chou, president of Delta Electronics. Anne Rademaker and Martin de Jong of Empact, meanwhile, are working with Delta on the next report.
