ESG implementation
Change by design
Implementing ESG is about change. And change does not happen by itself. On the one hand, because existing processes in an organization are often fully integrated into systems, practices and people’s heads. On the other hand, because the urgency, usefulness and necessity of a change will always be up for debate.
So we see a big difference between knowing that change is needed and actually changing. This is why Empact has developed a unique process
The Empact approach
ESG implementation is about changing the foundation of an organization. It is about the fundamental view that employees and stakeholders have of the world. That means ESG changes can never be part of a standard change process.
We therefore design the formal organizational change. This change is based on the strategy and deals with goals, activities, responsibilities, budgets and KPIs. We also call this the current.
In addition to this current, there is a lower current, and it is just as important. This is about informal organizational change and includes the culture of the organization and the people who work there. At Empact, this goes far beyond providing good examples or training. We believe in growing and developing the informal organization in terms of ESG.
Issues often raised during a current ESG implementation process include the following:
- What operational adjustments are needed to reduce environmental impact?
- What innovations can we adopt to promote sustainability?
- How can we integrate ESG criteria (such as meeting ISO 14001) into the supplier selection process?
- How can a sustainable procurement policy that prioritizes suppliers with strong ESG performance be implemented?
- What revisions to existing SOPs (standard operating procedures) are needed to incorporate sustainable practices, such as minimizing water and energy consumption?
- How can monitoring and reporting of ESG performance be integrated into existing ERP systems?
- How can I integrate stakeholder management in relation to ESG into my existing CSM systems?
- How do we integrate ESG KPIs into existing performance evaluation systems?
When it comes to designing change in the undercurrent, the following questions often come up:
- How can we integrate ESG values into our corporate culture?
- What ESG knowledge and skills are needed in our organization?
- How do we train our teams on ESG?
- What strategies are effective for managing change and overcoming resistance?
- How can we motivate employees to actively contribute to ESG initiatives?
