On 2 September 2026, 100 CEOs and five political parties signed the Ondernemersakkoord 2030 (Business Agreement 2030) at Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden. Martin de Jong signed as managing director of Empact. The agreement is an initiative of Future Up, a Dutch platform for sustainable business, and carries the subtitle “Nederland verdient beter” (the Netherlands deserves better).
The agreement works in two directions. The companies state what they themselves will do to strengthen the future earning capacity of the Netherlands. In turn, the political parties D66, PRO, Volt, ChristenUnie and 50PLUS prioritize the conditions that allow companies to invest in that earning capacity. Together, the signing companies represent a turnover of around 50 billion euros and more than 200,000 employees.
Three solutions
The agreement focuses on three connected solutions:
- Preserve raw materials: use materials more wisely, build circular chains and phase out fossil raw materials and fuels.
- Work with nature: make impact on nature measurable, create demand for organic and regenerative products and use biobased materials.
- Go for a level playing field for responsible business: fair purchasing practices, transparent product information and visible commitment to the OECD guidelines.
Why this touches our work
The third theme in particular connects to what we do every day. Under that theme, the companies commit to embedding fair purchasing practices in their commercial decisions, making product performance transparent and communicating visibly about their commitment to the OECD guidelines. In return, the political parties prioritize enforcement towards online platforms and direct import channels, enforceable rules for sustainability claims, and implementation support for mid-sized companies and their SME suppliers on laws such as the CSDDD, EUDR, FLR, DPP and PPWR.
